Answer: PLASTIC SURGEONS HAVE DIFFERENT PRE AND POST-OPERATIVE PROTOCOLS. Hello phyre, I appreciate your questions! Plastic surgeons have different pre and post-operative protocols, customize for every patient, to achieve the best results. Taking minerals (like iron and zinc) and vitamin C prior to the procedure can boost your body’s ability to heal and positively impact Brazilian Butt Lift’s final outcome. Vitamin C is highly recommended for many reasons: 1) It assists in the development and maintenance of scar tissue, blood vessels and cartilage; 2) it is necessary to build and rebuild collagen throughout the body; 3) is a powerful antioxidant that supports the immune system; 4) it also helps remove toxins and fights bacteria. I typically recommend my patients avoiding taking vitamin E because it is associated with increased bleeding, and this can lead to collection of blood (hematoma) which could result in turn in serious complications. It is important to check your dietary supplements/multivitamin carefully. Herbal supplements, in general, are to be avoided prior to surgery because they can cause bleeding and/or other operative complications. A few commonly taken herbal supplements to avoid are: Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Ginseng, Ginger, Dong Quai, Ephedra, Feverfew, St. John’s Wort and/or Omega 3 fatty acids. Since every case is different, it’s always best to consult with your plastic surgeon about your specific need and concerns. Hope this is helpful! Dr. De La Cruz.

Answer: I bought a pre op vitamin package. Are the following vitamins okay to prepare for Lipo BBL? Every doctor has their own protocol. In general, a standard multivitamin will not affect your result. However, high levels of certain vitamins like Vitamin E, fish oils, or herbal medications, etc, may hinder the surgery. Most plastic surgeons have their own protocol on what you can take and what you cannot take. It is best to always run your medication list by your surgeon in preparing for your surgery.
