BA: 4 days post op. Neck pain and muscle spasms.

Question

My BA was 4 days ago. The pain has completely subsided (yay!!). I am having some neck pain that is preventing me from getting a good night's rest.. and today, my boobs started tingling and having constant muscle spasms in my pecs. I am going to see my PS in a couple of days for my 1 week visit. Looking for advice to relieve these symptoms.

It is common to have muscle tightness and even spasms after surgery.  I usually prescribe my patients a muscle relaxant after surgery and suggest gentle range of motion and stretching to keep the muscles loose.  In cases where patients are extremely tight, I occasionally have them see an experienced physical therapist to get them back on track.  Every surgeon has their own protocol, so you should call your surgeon's office to see what they suggest.  You should call sooner rather than later, because the earlier you get the spasms under control, the faster they will resolve.

Congratulations on your breast implants! The neck pain and muscle spasms that you’ve described are common symptoms following a breast augmentation. Just make sure you let your plastic surgeon know about these concerns during your next visit, and he or she should be able to prescribe you muscle relaxers or other medications to help alleviate them. The neck pain is most likely caused by sleeping on your back, and as you continue to heal and are able to gradually switch to different positions, this should diminish.

What you describe is seen following breast augmentation. Let your surgeon (or their nurse) know what you are experiencing and ask if they think some muscle relaxants might be helpful to you.

Congratulations on your recent surgery!  Everything you are describing sounds completely normal.  Many patients complain of neck pain after just from lying around and sleeping on their backs.  As your body heals you will feel all sorts of differnet feelings.   The tingling and spasms are a normal part of the healing process.   Be sure to discuss all your concerns with you PS. The symptoms you are experiencing are common after breast augmentation.  Your surgeon may prescribe muscle relaxers which can help with the spasms.  Range of motion exercises and gentle massage may help as well, but discuss this with your surgeon before beginning.

Thank you for your question. Muscle spasms and neck pain are common after breast augmentation. Typically in our practice we recommend valium (diazepam) to help with these spasms. The typically resolve over the next two to three weeks but depend on the size of implants placed, and how much the muscle was manipulated during surgery.
