The top of my left breast/arm pit muscle feels like it's Charlie horsing! What is causing this, and should I be concerned?

I sounds like you have a muscle spasm.  If it persists you can ask you surgeon for a muscle relaxing pill that should help.  You should see your surgeon and get examined to make sure nothing worse is going on.

When implants are placed underneath the muscle the pressure may cause muscle spasms during the early postoperative period. As the muscle stretches out and becomes more relaxed muscle spasms normally subside. This may take a few weeks. Muscle relaxants can help with this problem. It is important for you to discuss this with your surgeon to make sure there isn't any other underlying problem.

Most likely what you are describing is part of the healing process, and may be a phenomenon such as muscle spasm… Always best, to check with your plastic surgeon to rule out complications that may present as asymmetric pain, to receive precise diagnosis/advice, and/or reassurance. Best wishes.

Implants placed under the muscle can and frequently does cause muscle spasms at this post-operative stage.  The use of muscle relaxers under your surgeon's direction usually helps this.  It should resolve over several weeks, but you should discuss your concerns with your surgeon to make sure there is nothing else that needs to be addressed.

One breast being more uncomfortable then the other after breast augmentation is not uncommon. Without knowing exactly what type of surgery you had (breast augmentation +/- breast lift etc) it is hard to say. Many times with subpectoral (under the muscle) placement of implants, there will be muscle twitching and contractions that can feel like a "charlie horse". This can be helped with a muscle relaxant. It is not anything to be concerned about but I would follow up with your PS and allow them to examine you and guide you further.

At just eight days post mommy makeover, it is not unusual to have chest muscle spasms following a breast augmentation.  These symptoms will resolve over time, but there are muscle relaxant medications that can help.  Let your surgeon know that you are having this problem.  They may want to see you to make certain you are not have other problems, such as bleeding.  But, don't be overly concerned, you probably didn't do anything wrong and these symptoms shouldn't adversely affect your result.  Best wishes, Dr Lepore
