Recommendations for wide and big Asian nose? (Photo)

Question

Hello, I'm an asian male with thick skin I don't want a drastic change to my nose, I just want my nose to be less wide and smaller, and fit harmoniously with my face. I've looked into alarplasty and tip refinement, and they seem to be what I'm looking for. Does anyone have some recommendations on what types of surgeries would align with the description I've given? I've attached some photos, thanks!

Based on your photos, I would likely recommend addressing your entire nose during rhinoplasty rather than only the tip and ala.  A subtle but natural change can be achieved by refining the tip of your nose, reducing the width and flare of your nostrils, and slightly building the bridge of your nose to make it appear more defined and smaller from the front.  An excellent way to get a better sense of the changes that are possible is to have your surgeon perform computer morphing of your images.  Although there are limitations, this will help you visualize what small changes will have on the overall balance of your appearance.

Refining your tip by removing excess cartilage and subcutaneous tissue can be done along with narrowing your nasal base. You may need to have the bridge narrowed as well or augmented depending on what type of nose you would like. See a very experienced surgeon for this and discuss your goals of noses that you like.

Dear jayenn;Alarplasty, in which the very base, or
floor, of the nostril is narrowed, is appropriate.  You look like a good candidate for that.  As far as the tip plasty: the tip actually looks pretty good.  The bridge looks a
little low, and that could be managed with a grafting of cartilage or possibly
non-surgical rhinoplasty/filler. Certainly
you have a situation that appears amenable for improvement, and if you are
interested, I think you should investigate. 
Hard to tell from these photos if the bony portion is too wide, but at
consultation that can be determined.  It
does not look to me like your skin is too thick which, frankly, is a difficult
call from 1,500 miles away. The homework
time you spend will be worth it. You want to do cosmetic nose surgery right – the first time. The
most critical element of the process is surgeon selection. Ideally, you want a
board-certified surgeon, in either plastic surgery or head
& neck
surgery fellowship-trained, one who is highly focused
on the procedure(s) you want, performs them at
least weekly and has been in practice for a minimum of ten
years.

Websites are the
key to understanding the practice. You should see at least dozens
of before and after pictures, showing the changes in the procedure
you want.The most helpful
sites have a variety of graphics, including photos of how you might look one or
five or ten days after surgery. Look for detailed explanations of
all procedures. The site should answer nearly every question you have. Generally, top
practices
have the thickest, richest and most informative websites. The dedicated doctor spends
much time building an educational website for your benefit.The more before surgery consultations you go to, the more you’ll
learn about your procedure. Prepare a list of questions beforehand and take
notes as the surgeon talks. In the best practices, no interruptions should take
place. And,
you should be spending more time with the surgeon than with the office
administrative staff. You should not feel rushed or that you are on a
consultation conveyer belt. Take a friend or relative along as two
brains are always better than one in gaining information and understanding. If
you hear a medical term you don’t understand, ask the surgeon to explain it in
plain English. Ask yourself two key questions:  “Is this surgeon teaching or
selling?” And,
can I put my life and my face into this particular doctor’s hands? Can I
trust him?” Another super-important element of the best consultations:
Computer Imaging.Here’s how it works: photos are taken
of you as you are and uploaded onto a special computer system
that can
morph your present appearance into an anticipated
after picture. (The technology is also known as Computer Morphing.)

Imaging is an incomparable learning tool because it
provides a forum for doctor-patient agreement on an
after surgery result that would satisfy you and
is a
result the doctor can deliver. After all, cosmetic surgery is 100% visual. It’s about
appearance but without visuals, everything is left to
the
imagination.  To
anticipate a successful outcome, there must be a meeting of the minds between
surgeon and patient.

Why waste your time on a consultation in
which the
surgeon can’t demonstrate what he envisions as the outcome? Would you buy a
painting without seeing it? In my opinion, a consultation

The rhinoplasty procedure can accomplish narrowing the wide nose. A wide nasal bridge is narrowed with osteotomies applied to the nasal bones. A tip rhinoplasty with suture techniques, cartilage grafts and sometimes a cartilage removal can narrow the tip cartilages. An alar plasty involves removing small wedge of skin at the base of the nostrils to narrow them as well. Thick skin will be an impediment to seeing a very refined nose

Your entire nose including the bridge, tip, and nasal base can be narrowed. Although  frequently seen in Asian noses  I cannot tell if your your bridge is adequately projected without a profile view; if not, this will give an illusion of a wider nose.
