Can I get my outie belly button removed and turned into an innie? (Photo)

Question

So I am a 18 year old boy in year 12 this year and I have had a outtie belly button for a very long time in which I don't feel comfortable with. I don't show anyone and I always stay away from any pool activities in fear of taking my shirt off. My outtie does not seem normal and I want it removed fast. I just want to know if the treatment I can get for it is worth it or if there are any side affects .

Based on your photo you may have an umbilical hernia.  I would get this ruled out by a  surgeon before proceeding with cosmetic reduction of your belly button.   Hernia repair is usually considered medically necessary and may also improve the appearance of your belly button.

Thank you for your question and picture.  It appears you have a umbilical hernia.  Umbilicoplasty, also known as belly button surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure to change the position, size and shape of your belly button. It’s quite common, after pregnancy or as a result of a hernia around the belly button, that the attachment of the belly button to the deeper tissue is lost. This results in what is commonly known as the ‘outie belly button’. For some, the unsightly appearance of the belly button can be very visible even from under clothing and can cause embarrassment and anxiety. Some umbilical hernias can be serious if not treated by Umbilicoplasty so it’s best to get it checked out. All the Best

It looks like you may have an umbilical hernia. 
Umbilical hernia repair is a fairly quick and simple operation. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes and it's usually possible to go home on the same day.
However, some people stay in hospital overnight if they have other medical problems or if they live alone.

You have an outie belly button that can be repaired and made to an innie.  The umbilicus has a hernia .  You will need to fix the hernia and then I place several sutures to internally create an innie belly button.   I do  many of these. Best to see a board certified plastic surgeon.

Yes its possible for your outie belly button to be turned into a “innie” belly button. You should also have an ultrasound to be certain that you don’t have a hernia behind the button.  Every surgical procedure carries a risk but these can be minimised by selecting a fully qualified and experienced plastic surgeon.
