Custom chin implant - deep labiomental fold: bottom lip has actually been pulled BACK.

Question

My top front teeth rest on the inside of a deep labiomental fold. This bothered me. 4 days ago....I had a custom chin implant put in with the intent to reduce the labiomental fold and create more room for my top front teeth. Now I understand it’s new, and not even close to a final result (swelling etc), but my bottom lip has actually been pulled BACK creating LESS room for my teeth and actually making it hard to talk without my top front teeth getting in the way of my bottom lip. Thoughts?

This is difficult to answer without pictures. If you're concerned about your results, I recommend following up with your surgeon. Keep in mind, you will have swelling, which will gradually resolve over the next several weeks. Hope this helps.

Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years.  If an intra-oral approach was used, this is far more invasive a technique than the submental approach as described below.  This might explain the symptoms, which you may want to discuss with your chin implant surgeon.  The gingival buccal sulcus, on the inside your lower lip, should be examined to make certain the implant has not migrated upward out of position as this can cause erosion into the mouth contaminating the implant. The submnetal approach, for chin implant placement, is described below.   When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin".  
 Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face.  Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck.  Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision.  
 I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone).  I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone.
