Taking the tape off my incisions and the scab coming off with, is the scar going to be worse because of that?

I advise my patients to use an antibiotic ointment on top of their Steri-Strip Band Aids right from the time of surgery. Skin likes moisture and will help with the healing. At 20 days after surgery there should be very little discomfort when removing your bandage, as it should be much like removing a Band-Aid. I further advise my patients to use a gentle moisturizer after they have removed their Steri-Strips. It is always a good idea to check in with your surgeon's protocol. Thanks for the questions and I can understand your concerns.  If the tape is steristrips (also known as "butterflies") then at 3 weeks they generally peel off easily.  A bit of adhesive remover on a q-tip can help if needed.  If it is dermabond tape, again usually it comes off easily at 3 weeks.  You can use petroleum jelly on top of it if it is not coming off.  There may be some crusting around the incision, but should not be scabbed.  All of this really should not hurt, and have a friend help if needed :)
