I would like my procedure to be covered by insurance. I have BCBS of Michigan and I am 23 years old. I have a size 34 G chest. I have had 6+ months of Physical therapy, it didnt help. I hav gone to a chiropractor, I've taken rash creams for my rashes. I have tried losing weight, the weight wouldn't leave my chest. I have back, neck, and shoulder pain from my chest. I can't breath with my large chest in bed, I get pinched nerves, indents in shoulders. Do I have a good case?
Answer: Candidacy for Breast Reduction A documented history of physical therapy, chiropractic care, and the significant physical symptoms you're experiencing are oftentimes required by insurance carriers to meet their coverage policies. Meet with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience with insurance claims for breast reduction. They can help determine if your case meets medical necessity criteria and guide you through the process.

Answer: Am I a candidate? Based on your photos and descriptions of your symptoms you are a very good candidate for breast reduction. Each insurance carrier handles breast reduction differently. It is good that you can show you have tried several often advised remedies already. I recommend beginning by visiting with a board certified plastic surgeon near you to learn more about the procedure.

Answer: Yes Hi Genuine839047, Breast reduction through insurance can be a complicated process. Clearly, based on what you have described, you are aware of the process are documenting things thoroughly. Many insurance companies will require a trial period of medical management of large breasts. This will generally include physical therapy, visits to see your primary care doctor for back and neck and shoulder pain, and/or chiropractic care. Many women with large breast experience notable symptoms, including back and neck and shoulder pain, bra strap grooving, rashes in the inframammary fold, awkwardness in social situations, and challenges finding clothes that fit. It sounds like you have many of these. In general, when surgeons see the patient for breast reduction, they are documenting not only the physical and emotional issues noted above, but the precursor workup through primary care, chiropractic, or physical therapy that this occurred prior to seeing the plastic surgeon. As you note, you have done most of these things. Based on the photos, you have large and pendulous breasts, and a substantial amount of volume could be removed. Based on the photos and your description, you would be a good candidate for breast reduction. I would suggest meeting with a qualified board certified plastic surgeon to discuss next steps. Hope this helps. Best,Christopher Pannucci MDBoard Certified Plastic SurgeonPlastic Surgery NorthwestSpokane, Washington
