1 month post-op. Both implants are dropping. One has dropped faster and they are different shapes. Is this normal? (photo)

Thank you for your question and photograph, and it appears that you will have a very nice result.  After placement of implants, the overall appearance of the breasts will change dramatically over the next several months, as the implants drop, and the overlying tissue stretches to accommodate the extra volume.  At one month your implants appear to be settling, with one having dropped a bit sooner than the other.  This is very common.  I know waiting is difficult, but judge your results at 4-6 months after surgery as most of your breast changes should have occurred by then.  Hope this helps. 

Hi & thank you for your question!At one month post op you are still very early in the recovery process. It may take 3 to 6 months for the implants to drop and settle into position. Give it some time. Continue to follow your surgeons instructions and contact him or her with any concerns. Best wishes!

I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a breast augmentation surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process at 1 month  post op.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues around the implants are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides and the implants drop to their final position, you will be able to see the final result of your breast augmentation surgery.

It is fairly common for breasts to heal at a different rate. You are early in your recovery, it may take several more months before you see your final result. try to be patient and follow your surgeon's post operative instructions. Good luck.

Thank you for your question. You are still early in the healing process. Keep in mind it is not uncommon to have swelling. Breasts may not heal at the same rate, causing one breast to appear different than the other. It can take up to 12 weeks for the implants to settle and you to see the final result. Follow up with your board certified surgeon to address your concern. Good luck!

You have two different breasts and use your arms differently, so it is quite common for your two implants to drop at different times. Still follow your post operative instructions. Some women may take the full 6 months before the implants are completely settled. Please discuss any concerns you have with your surgeon.

 There are many variables when it comes to how much breast implants will "settle";  the main variable in my opinion will be exactly how/where the breast implant pocket was dissected.  For this reason, your plastic surgeon will be your best resource.
 
Generally speaking, breast implants will "drop" into the pocket that was created during surgery. The rate of breast implant "settling" may depend on factors such as size of breast implant pocket dissected, tightness of the overlying skin/muscle layers, and size of breast implant utilized.  Some degree of asymmetrical "settling" is commonly seen.   It may take about 6 months (for some patients longer) to see the final result.  As the breast implants "settle", the lower breast poles will round out, and the nipple/areola complexes will sit higher on each breast mound.


In cases where significant breast asymmetry persists, the pros/cons associated with revisionary breast surgery (for example, capsulotomy surgery for an implant that is sitting too high or capsulorraphy for a breast implant that is too low) should be carefully considered prior to making decisions whether or not to undergo further surgery.

It is important to have an in-person medical assessment regarding this issue as it is difficult to determine virtually. Continue to update your doctor in the matter and follow their post-op protocol.

It is crucial to get cleared by your doctor before engaging in specific physical activity before the 3 month healing period has ended as the healing stage is important for healthy results.

It generally takes around 6 months to a year to see your final results. Your tissues will take time to relax and allow your implants to "Drop and Fluff" settling into place. Should a revision cross your mind, it is best to wait at least 6 months to a year before doing so.

Our tips for recovery following breast augmentation are to wear a supportive sports bra for 3 months post-operative and refrain from lifting anything heavier than 10 lbs for 3 weeks as we don't want any strain at your incision sites. Make sure to keep the area of your stitches clean by cleansing with hydrogen peroxide daily. Showering is encouraged! But, no sitting in water for 2 weeks following surgery (no baths, hot tubs, pools etc.).

Remember the breast are sisters and not twins.  It is not unusual for one to heal ( drop and fluff) faster than the other one.   Don't be worried.  Follow up with your surgeon so he can monitor your recovery.
