My right buttocks has appeared to drop a bit from too much fat being taken from the banana roll. It’s now creating a double gluteal fold. Can this be corrected?
Answer: Infragluteal thigh lift Thank you for your question. The problem that you describe is quite common. In my practice, I call it the "Del Mar Butt Tuck" and is technically known as an infragluteal thigh lift. I modified this technique by placing the incisions along the anterior buttock creases, and this is known as a "Thong Lift". It depends on your specific anatomy to determine if this is the best procedure for you. This removes the redundant extra tissue along the bottom of the buttocks via an incision in the crease. The patients are extremely happy with the results, and the incisions heal very nicely. Best wishes to you.

Answer: Liposculpture Hello ! It is a difficult area to treat but it is feasible - with Liposculpture. The goal of liposculpture is to reshape and contour the body. It consists of liposuction and fat transfer. Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon well versed in liposculpture. I hope this helps, best of luck ! Randal Haworth

Answer: Double fold Unfortunately liposuction of the banana roll can cause additional lines to form which is why I avoid liposuction in that area if possible. The way to correct this is to directly cut out that area but you will have to be wiling to accept a scar inside the new crease. Hope this helps! Johnson C. Lee, MD Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Inappropriate Liposuction The banana fold is not caused by an abnormality in fat distribution. It is a skin fold and should not be treated with Liposuction. This is true because Liposuction does not correct. The problem and removing fat in this area will inevitably create other issues. There’s simply is no treatment for the banana role, which is present in a substantial percentage of all women. It is a normal skin fold just like it’s normal to have a skinfold on your lower abdomen. When you sit down in an upright standing position, the skin, and the fat on the back of the thigh is pushed into the buttocks, compressing the skin, and this creates a skin fold in some people. you can either except the results for what they are or attempt to rebuild the fact that shouldn’t have been removed with series of fat transfer. Correcting it previously poorly done or in appropriately done Liposuction is very difficult. If you’re going to do this, then you need to find a sufficiently talented provider. The number of plastic surgeons who can do liposuction and fat, transfer well on a consistent basis, including the ability to make an accurate assessment and deliver predictable results is quite a few. Fat transfer is difficult, and will most likely require multiple operations. I recommend anybody considering permanent, irreversible body, contouring procedures be highly selective, when choosing providers and thoroughly that each provider during the process. This process should also serve to confirm the assessment of your condition. At this point the majority of plastic surgeons probably still offer Liposuction of the banana role, despite the fact that the treatment does not deliver. Most advanced providers I know recognize that this area should not be treated with Liposuction and generally don’t offer it to patients. Revision work is many times more difficult than primary work so to find the right provider to try to restore this area is going to require finding a truly exceptional provider if you want to choose to go down that route. I recommend patients have at least five in person consultations before choosing a provider for any liposuction procedure. Some people may need more than five in person consultations to find the right provider. Being board-certified, and plastic surgery with an overall good reputation and years of experience does not mean someone has mastered liposuction. When you add fat transfer, which is an even more complex procedure, the importance of finding those who are truly exceptional is even greater When, in doubt, slow down and schedule more consultations. Anybody who thinks this is easy to fix or do use of some skin tightening device is going to fix your problem. I should probably be avoided. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
