I recently had Restylane done to my temples. The provider explained that this was not going to last much, and that something like Sculptra would work better in the area. I am thinking about doing Sculptra. Should I wait for the Restylane to reabsorb first? Are there potential risks mixing two types of fillers in the same area?
Answer: Mixing fillers Hello, and thank you for your question. Restylane is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, whereas Scultpra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator where it works to rebuild your collagen that was lost over time. They can achieve similar results, but will vary with timeframe and duration. Any HA filler can show immediate improvement. You can walk out of the treatment clinic and notice a difference. Scultpra, however, takes at least 6-8 weeks for new collagen to build, so results will not be immediate. You can use both of these fillers at the same time, although risks can always occur with too much product over time. HA filler, depending on the type and one's metabolism of the product, can last 6 months to 2 years. Sculptra can also last 2 years. It is best to speak to a practitioner who specializes in administering both HA filler and Sculptra to determine your best course of action.

Answer: Need to come in to consult For unique cases where a variety of modalities could be used to treat the condition, I would suggest an in-person or virtual consultation to develop a custom and effective treatment plan. It is difficult to precisely define the best option without collecting the same information. I suggest reaching out to an expert for a consultation with surgical and non-surgical methods to get a comprehensive option. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Mixing fillers In many cases, yes you can use a combination of fillers to treat the same area. Make sure you visit with an expert injector for your treatment. While HA fillers can be dissolved, Sculptra is different and cannot. I've included a video on Sculptra that I hope you find helpful.

Answer: Fillers to Fillers For best results, you can combine Sculptra with the HA fillers such as the Restylane line of products. When Sculptra is used in combination with HA fillers, it can contribute to comprehensive facial rejuvenation. For example, HA fillers can be used to add volume and smooth out wrinkles in the forehead and cheek areas. Simultaneously, Sculptra can be used to enhance the facial perimeter, helping to lift and reduce the appearance of folds around the nose and mouth. This combined approach can yield a more holistic and natural-looking result.
