I had Botox for the first time 6 days ago. I have one eyebrow lower than the other, and have an angry bird look. Is this normal?

It can definitely be a little nerve-wracking the first time you get BOTOX and see temporary side effects like what you’ve described in your question. However, it is true that it can take up to 2 weeks to see you final results. So at just a few days after your injections, it’s safe to say that you’re probably not seeing your final outcome just yet. Try to be patient and give the product some more time to take effect. If you’re still unhappy after the 2-week mark, schedule a visit with your provider to see if there is anything they can do to help soften the results. Best of luck.

Thank you for your question. Drooping of the brow can sometimes occur after Botox injections. I would recommend waiting and it should settle out after a few days. If it continues to persist, follow up with your doctor.

Dear ray49,Than you for your question. You have an angry bird look because of the pattern of injection. Usually a small amount of Botox over the lateral eyebrows will correct that look easily. Treatment with Botox for brow descent is a challenging undertaking. More often than not patients who have brow descent have the worst forehead wrinkles. This is often they are presenting complaint and care is to be taken with addressing the frontalis muscle which is being used to elevate the brow in these patients. It is the brow depressors at the corrugator and procerus which need to be addressed first to limit the inferior motion downward motion of the brow and to allow the rebalancing of the brow based on the frontalis muscle. If asymmetry in the brow is revealed with Botox treatment into the frontalis it more likely than not indicates that the patient would be a very good candidate for a brow lift. This can often be done under local anesthesia in the office to help rebalance and asymmetry and provide a more smooth and contoured forehead and brow position. While this can be detected by most practitioners there are certainly times when reasonable treatment for frontalis and forehead righted's exposes brow asymmetry and results in one eyebrow being lower than the other. There are options for treating this with more Botox into the areas of the orbicularis around the eye. More often than not patients are not interested in a rebalancing procedure that lowers their elevated brow. Look for a practitioner who has access and experience working with a plastic surgeon so that you have the full spectrum of treatment options.

I’m so sorry you are having such a bad experience. In our practice we do see patients earlier than 14 days if they get a peaked eyebrow. It’s an easy fix to bring it back down.  It doesn’t happen often, but  it’s not uncommon. Your injector is correct, it takes 14 days for it to fully settle. I’d follow up to see if you can be seen for a touch up. Best of luck. 

As noted below this is based on where the botox was injected. It can be corrected with some additional injections. It is not unreasonable to wait a few days to see if it evens out based on where they initially injected. If very concerned you can absolutely go in and see them.

It does sometimes take 10-14 days for Botox to take full effect so it is reasonable to wait a few days to be sure. However, if it is uneven they should touch it up. Even the best injectors sometimes get Botox uneven.
