Dent in cleavage on one breast. Is this common with implants? (Photo)

Question

I had my breasts done in 2016, 16 months ago I gave birth to my first baby. I knew my breasts would change. I have recently noticed a loss of volume just in my left breast I have a long dent in the inner part. I’m so nervous it’s something more than my implant, had my first mammogram yesterday. Looking to see if this is common with implants? I have textured silicone. I have had pain in this breast as well.

The best way to determine the cause of your symptoms is to see a qualified plastic surgeon who has experience with breast augmentation and can examine you in person. They may also want to review the results of your mammogram to help diagnose the issue and determine the best course of action.

Thanks for your question! I'm not sure I can really see what you are referring to in these photos. I would suggest seeking out an in-person evaluation. Because you have textured silicone implants and it's been 7 years, it's not too early to consider replacement. Good luck!

Thanks for your inquiry and pictures, without an exam it hard to advise.  The dent may be edge of pectoralis that is more visible with breast volume loss. What did the mammogram show?  Best you go get an in person consultation given that you have pain, best of luck.

The fact you have textured implants infers to me that your implants are over the muscle. The area you indicate would be the zone where the implant is not covered by muscle and is now exposed due to changes to your breasts from childbirth/breastfeeding. The easiest fix would fat grafting. Alternatively, if your implants are in fact over the muscle, you could remove and replace to under.

You have a ripple from loss of breast tissue after breast feeding. Placing the implants behind the muscle will help cover this loss.

If you are noticing changes in shape and pain to your breasts I encourage you to visit your surgeon for an evaluation.  It could be related to changes from pregnancy, but capsular contracture should be ruled out.

Sorry to hear about your left breast pain and change in contour 16 months after your pregnancy. There are a number of issues to be considered at this time. Among them are: 
A) Is this post partum breast volume loss? 
B) Is this early capsular contracture; Is your breast firmer than before your pregnancy?
Unfortunately, this is not diagnosable from photos.  I would strongly recommend that you revisit your plastic surgeon for a consultation with a re-examination. The mammogram you just had can be helpful, too!

First, I commend you for getting a mammogram. A screening mammogram is often a good place to start. Additional imaging may be necessary to assess the integrity of your implants. You should follow up with your plastic surgeon for an examination. It is important to know that asymmetric loss of breast volume is very common after pregnancy. Implants often do not correct these differences. Most of the time, these changes are benign.
