Hi doctors, I had scar contracture on one side of face due to hematoma after my dpfl 8 months ago. Last week, my doctor cut a incision around my initial scar and used a scissor like tool to free the tether from upper cheek to jaw angle. He Then injected Nanofat/prp. Recovery was easy, not even really swellon. My question is when can I work out( I lift), also I know smoking pot might affect my healing but is edibles ok? I don’t want another hematoma and I want the nano fat to survive
Answer: Facelift #blepharoplasty #recovery #swelling #supplements #necklift #secondaryfacelift Dear LongrecoveryingThank you for your question! Please consult with your surgeon in regards to your activity etc. With Warm RegardsTrevor M Born MD

Answer: Incisions still healing . . . Probably would be safest to wait until a full four-weeks or more to fully work out, when the incisions are stronger and tissues would be less reactive in general (but safer still to check with your surgeon, since s/he knows exactly what was done!)

Answer: Smoking should be avoided Thanks for your question. I can not really comment as to when it is appropriate to take marijuana as it is illegal in the UK and therefore I could not advise on this. What I will say that smaoking generally will have a negative impact on skin healing and the fat grafts. This is due to components in smoke such as nicotine which will constrict the blood vessels and in doing so reduce the amount of oxygen and nutrients to the area. This will drastically increase the risk of wound breakdown/ infection and lack of fat grafting to work. For most surgery, it is advised to stop exercising for a minimum of two weeks. Following this you can restart your exercise routine slowly such that by 6 weeks from surgery, you would be reaching your pre surgery fitness regimen. Exercising too soon can cause stretching of scars taht are still weak - increased blood flow into healing areas wich with higher blood pressures can result in more swelling and bruising. I hope this is helpful BW

Answer: Hope this helps! Thank you for your inquiry. Regarding marijuana use, I am unable to provide guidance as its legality varies by location. However, I can offer insights into the impact of smoking in general on the healing process. Smoking, including marijuana, can adversely affect skin healing and the success of fat grafts. Components within smoke, such as nicotine, constrict blood vessels, which in turn reduces oxygen and nutrient supply to the area. This heightened risk can lead to issues like wound breakdown, infection, and decreased fat graft viability. In the context of exercise post-surgery, it's generally recommended to abstain for at least two weeks following the procedure. Gradually reintroducing exercise afterward ensures that by around six weeks post-surgery, you can resume your previous fitness routine. Premature exercise could strain healing scars and cause increased swelling and bruising due to heightened blood flow to healing areas. While each individual's situation is unique, these are general guidelines to optimize healing and outcomes. Should you desire more specific guidance or personalized advice, I'm here to provide further assistance. If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out to me at chopraplasticsurgery.com.

Answer: Working out and marijuana should not affect healing at this time. If I were your surgeon, I would be okay with you working out. Also, marijuana usage, whether smoked or in edible format, should not affect your healing at this time. I suggest, though, that you get clearance from your surgeon.
