Hi doctors, I had scar contracture on one side of face due to hematoma after my dpfl 8 months ago. Last week, my doctor cut a incision around my initial scar and used a scissor like tool to free the tether from upper cheek to jaw angle. He Then injected Nanofat/prp. Recovery was easy, not even really swellon. My question is when can I work out( I lift), also I know smoking pot might affect my healing but is edibles ok? I don’t want another hematoma and I want the nano fat to survive
Answer: Hope this helps! Thank you for your inquiry. Regarding marijuana use, I am unable to provide guidance as its legality varies by location. However, I can offer insights into the impact of smoking in general on the healing process. Smoking, including marijuana, can adversely affect skin healing and the success of fat grafts. Components within smoke, such as nicotine, constrict blood vessels, which in turn reduces oxygen and nutrient supply to the area. This heightened risk can lead to issues like wound breakdown, infection, and decreased fat graft viability. In the context of exercise post-surgery, it's generally recommended to abstain for at least two weeks following the procedure. Gradually reintroducing exercise afterward ensures that by around six weeks post-surgery, you can resume your previous fitness routine. Premature exercise could strain healing scars and cause increased swelling and bruising due to heightened blood flow to healing areas. While each individual's situation is unique, these are general guidelines to optimize healing and outcomes. Should you desire more specific guidance or personalized advice, I'm here to provide further assistance. If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out to me at chopraplasticsurgery.com.

Answer: Working out and marijuana should not affect healing at this time. If I were your surgeon, I would be okay with you working out. Also, marijuana usage, whether smoked or in edible format, should not affect your healing at this time. I suggest, though, that you get clearance from your surgeon.
