Does waiting 8 months vs. 6 months make a difference for a revision surgery?

Thank you for your question.  If a patient needs a revision, it will normally be performed between 6-12 months after the surgery or when your surgeon feels everything has settled and healed.  When having a revision you want to minimise the risks as much as possible, therefore sometimes waiting a little longer means a reduced risk in problems (infection, poor scarring etc).  Please be advised by your surgeon on how long to wait as they will perform when is medically safe.  All The Best 

It really all depends on the approach for the platysmaplasty. If your surgeon is going to only make an incision under your chin, then you don't need to wait very long as technically, you only had liposuction to the area on your neck. If the surgeon is going to perform the platysmaplasty by doing both a midline platysmaplasty via the chin incision and then making incisions behind the ear to elevate the lateral platysma again, then its better to wait the 8 months for as much healing and scar tissue to resolve. 

It is always best to wait long enough for swelling to settle and scars to mature (inner, invisible scars) to be able to evaluate "deformity" and make good plan for correction. However, if your anterior neck was not open or treated in the course of your face lift, it would be possible to do your neck procedure using submental (underneath the chin) incision, sooner. With small platysmal bands a midline incision and corset platysmaplasty is sometimes all that is required. If there is much excess skin and a platysmaplasty is performed then you will likely need a revision of your neck lift. There is no benefit to waiting  8 months as opposed to 6 months to perform this surgery. The results of platymaplasty and neck lift are usually excellent!

Your issue can be addressed to  small platysmal bands a midline incision and corset platysmaplasty.However, you need to have a detailed examination to make certain assessment and customised treatment plan.

This entirely depends on your rate of healing. At 6 months, patients are usually fully recovered and are seeing their final results. This is the best time to consider a revision surgery as the structures have fully healed. Some however, may experience delayed healing and may take up to 8 months. The best resource of information would be your board certified plastic surgeon as he/she knows your condition best.

It is probably best to wait at least 8 months to a year before undergoing a revision neck lift with a platysma plasty procedure.  In the meantime, consider placement of Botox into your active platysmal bands.
