Is it normal to swell in legs and feet or could this be blood clotting? (Photos)

Safety is at the forefront of any reputable plastic surgeon's mind. A big risk in many plastic surgery operations is DVT, or deep venous thrombosis- a blood clot usually in the legs. This clot can then travel upstream through the heart and get lodged in the lungs, causing very serious problems. 
The most likely probability after removal of compression stockings and return to work is expected post-operative swelling, especially if it is in both legs. However, anytime there is new swelling in the legs after surgery, an evaluation must be done to rule out DVT. Seeing your surgeon as soon as possible is advisable in order to perform an exam and any additional tests. An ultrasound exam may be necessary to evaluate the lower extremity veins for any clots.
