I am interested in getting microneedling. I am a 30 year old female. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and I'm on ocrevus, which targets b cells. Is microneedling contraindicated for me? Thanks.
Answer: Microneedling and MS Dear RS friend,Thank you for posting the question. As far as I know this medicatiion is not contraindicated with micro-needling. It is my opinion that these and other questions regarding medications and chronic diseases should be discussed with your injecting doctor as well as your primary care physician who oversees your treatment and will be most familiar with your care.Microneedling will visibly improves the texture and tone of your skin by creating new collagen, regardless of your skin color! Procedure time:* 30 minutes Downtime:* red skin for a few hours to a few days. Typically, multiple treatments are needed for best results. Hope this is helpful. Best fom Boston, Dr. Onir

Answer: Is microneedling contraindicated with a patient diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS)? I believe that it is safe to undergo a microneedling procedure. Keep in mind that results may be diminished because your immune system is impaired. The immune system is responsible for the healing and collagen response. Make sure sterile technique is adhered to during the procedure and the skin is kept clean and make up free at least until the following morning.

Answer: Is microneedling contraindicated while on ocrevus As a b cell inhibitor, Ocrevus may increase the risk of infections slightly. Off the top of my head, I do not have specific experience doing microneedling for anyone on this medication, or any procedures for that matter. However, I do surgery and other procedures on people routinely who have some degree of immunosuppression. Some are on steroids, others are on drugs similar to ocrevus. I would consider microneedling a very low risk procedure and therefore I do not see a reason to recommend that you avoid it. Proper hygiene and antiseptic techniques would be important (as they always area) and you could even consider a day or two of oral antibiotics for prophylactic reason. If I were your provider I would probably do the first microneedling conservatively to see how you do and then increase from there based on your experience. This is just my approach and other doctors may have different thoughts and that does not make them wrong. Good luck!

Answer: Is microneedling contraindicated for people being treated for multiple sclerosis? Hi nya5, This does not constitute medical knowledge and you should always check with your doctor. Though there are some conditions like scleroderma that are contraindicated, multiple sclerosis isn't one of them. Regarding medication, it is Accutane that is contraindicated unless it's been at least 6 months after last intake. It might be of interest for you to know that Microneedling of the medical kind has been used to deliver medication for patients with multiple sclerosis. All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.
