Now that mass health covers lipodystrophy patients (FINALLY!!) I am looking forward to regaining mass in my backside and I am actively searching for a dr in the Boston area who can help me with my dilemma. Long term survivor here, and healthy other than this unfortunate side effect of the now outdated hiv drugs.

Allow me to answer your question as best i can without any photos. Also, please keep in mind that an in-person consultation with physical exam is first necessary before any legitimate evaluation or final surgical recommendations are made.
Surgical prices vary by region, surgeon reputation, and surgical experience.  Keep in mind however that very few plastic surgeon truly specialize in buttock implants and the first time around has the absolute best chance for aesthetic success. Revision  for botch-jobs are not only very expensive but extremely challenging to achieve, at minimum, a reasonable aesthetic final outcome.  Because of this, patients not infrequently have to fly long distances to have their surgery done by a board-certified plastic surgeon whom specializes in buttock implants. Like any other patient and most any other surgery, as long as you are medically cleared and fit for surgery you can proceed with buttock implants. I've  performed buttock implants on probably over 50 patients with stable HIV in the past 16 years without any increased risk or unusual complication. Glad to help.

I have done many buttock implants in HIV patients without issue. This is very common. As long as you get medically cleared from your PCP and all your levels are good we can move forward. Be sure to choose a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in buttock implants.
