Hi. I have struggled with this dark spot above my lip for years. I have tried many skin products such as niacimide, kojic acid, aha +bha, vitamin c and more and none have work. Recently I got a chemical peel and it did not budge at all. They only offer PCA peels in their spa and I feel as though I may need something more rigorous. The rest of my face is pretty sensitive so could I do a treatment that targets the above lip area only?

Answer: Dark spots on lips. Hi there, So sorry to hear about your struggle with the dark spots above your lips. The products you've used so far are good to use as preventative measures but the pigment may be pretty deep in that area. First thing, I would recommend is seeing an experienced Master Aesthetician with knowledge in treating darker Fitzpatricks (darker skins). Your skin looks to be a Fitzpatrick V, and there are specific treatments such as chemical peels and lasers that are more successful for your Fitzpatrick with less side effects/risks of post hyperpigmentation. However, it is more limited what you can do to your skin. I would recommend pre-treating with a 4-6% Hydroquinone 14 days prior to any treatment you may have to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation. This will inhibit the activation of your melanocytes (skin cells that create pigmentation). Always, always wear sunblock to prevent further pigmentation issues from the sun alone. Best!
