Bloodshot Eyes 3 Months After Blepharoplasy

Question

I realise that this is a common complaint, but I am getting worried because I had my surgery done 3 months ago, surely my eyes should have settled by now, I use moisturiser drops but that doesn't seem to help much, also around the edges of my lids top and bottom are very red too, please advise.

Often, redness of the eyes after bleph is from corneal exposure and dryness. This leads to inflammation. Lubricating eye ointments help; however, Restasis drops by Rx from your physician may be needed.

I agree that your eyes should have settled down by now even if you had a dry eye to begin with.  However, sometime things take longer.  Sometimes, there is something else going on.  Unless your surgeon is also an ophthalmologist, I recommend that you see an ophthalmologist for this problem.  I am not suggesting that the surgeon who did your eyelid surgery is not interested in helping you.  

	However it is really only the ophthalmologist (or oculoplastic surgeons) who maintain the office based microscopes call slit lamps for examining the eyelids properly.  This level of magnification together with the diagnostic skills are needed to get to the issue.  It may be that in addition to a dry eye, there is inflammation along the edges of the eyelids.  This is speculation but the point is the ophthalmologist will be able to assess it and help you with treatment to make it better.

You may be experiencing some dryness of the eyes or an eversion of the lid causing an exposure and irritation.  You should definitely be examined.

This is rare. It may be associated with whatever eye drops are used.  You should definitely check with your doctor.

Having blood shot eyes three months after surgery is not very common. It sounds like it could be dry eye symptoms. I would review this with your doctor or an ophthamologist.
