How many units should I expect to recieve? 28 y/o female

Typically, there are recommended doses of toxin for each muscle that is being targeted with the injection. However, providers will sometimes tailor their dosages based on each individual patient. My recommendation is to go see a trained plastic surgeon who can give you their best suggestion for treatment.

This is a great question! You are young, and have begun preventatively getting toxin injections for prevention. While 50 units is under the FDA approved dose of 64 units in the upper face, it is still up there and can leave you feeling very frozen after treatment. Whether you continue with Botox or begin Dysport, Xeomin, or Jeuveau, you will still feel that frozen since 50 units is a large amount for a 28 year old with few lines.
For you, I would begin with less units, have you follow up with a 2 week dose adjustment if needed, and allow you to go about your life for 3-4 months to see how long this lesser dose lasts, and how you like the results. From then, we can always tweak and increase if needed. It is always better to begin with less than more!

I would likely treat a young woman like you with anywhere from 24 to 32 units of Botox. Your frozen feeling was probably due to the relatively high dose that you received. Be sure to choose your injecting physician most carefully. Good luck and be well.

Hi! It depends on which areas you want injected and whether you want a more natural look vs more frozen. My guess is you're hoping for more natural based off of what you said. If I were just treating the horizontal forehead lines, I would do something like 6u, for central glabella something like 9u, and I can't tell if in the last pic you're trying to show crow's feet but you're very light so maybe only 4-6u per side for eyes. I tell my new patients that I can always add more tox to you if you want more, but once there's too much put in, we can't do anything except wait, so I always err on lower dose and then add.

Each patient has their own preferences regarding post treatment movement and what areas are important for them to target. That's why its important to find an injector that matches your aesthetic. Typically, smaller doses will allow more movement but will appear to wear off sooner. If you felt too frozen, try decreasing the dosage in areas where you wanted more movement. Perhaps less botox more frequently (every 3-4 months) may provide the look you're seeking. Once you find an injector that compliments your aesthetic, stick with them.

Every individual may vary in dosing. One thing to remember is that 'Dosing Duration.' As you bring down the units in an area, the duration of the results may decrease.
Personally, I like to conservatively dose my patients the first time to see how they respond. They are encouraged to take notes on their results in terms of strength, return of movement, and duration to then adjust as necessary. You can always add on more units (even as early as 2 weeks after their first injection as a touch up) but if the dose is too strong, only time can bring movement back to baseline.
The average dose to treat the glabella, forehead, and crow's feet tend to be 64u for 3-4 months of result. However, if you prefer softer results, you can dose more lightly next time.

Hi, thank you for your question! Dosing for botox is based off your muscle movement solely. I would recommend between 5- 8 units for your forehead, 20-25 units for between your brows, and 15 units for the crows feet. Starting at a moderate dose it would be 40 units all together. Dosing also equals duration so starting at a moderate dose may mean pushing your appointments closer together.

Each patient responds differently to medicines such as botulinum. I'm sure your provider would be happy to adjust the dosage to fit your needs. A lower dosage is completely doable. For reference, 50 units of Botox is an average dosage so the treatment was standard.

While there are recommended units of neurotoxin per area, the actual dose to be used should depend on a few factors. Some of these factors are the specific neurotoxin (Botox, dysport, xeomin etc) being used, area to be treated, patient anatomy in that area and the desired patient outcome that aligns with the patient’s sense aesthetics. For a less frozen look, consider a request for your provider to do a lower the dose for your treatment. There is also an opportunity to subsequently add to an area for more effect after a week.
