Is it possible to get a TT, hysterectomy, and breast reduction at the same time?

Thank you for your question.  Our studies show that it is safe to perform a tummy tuck at the time of the hysterectomy.  Adding a breast reduction will likely add another 3 hours to an already long procedure.  My advice would be to do the breast reduction at another time.  The recovery from a breast reduction will be much easier than the abdominal procedures.  I suggest you meet with a reputable board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options.  Good luck!

I know that in my office we complete multiple mommy makeover procedures together at one time. The mommy makeover is a combination of procedures to bring a woman’s body back to the way she looked prior to pregnancy. Most commonly some variation of a #TummyTuck and #BeastSurgery are performed. It's been well documented that an uncomplicated hysterectomy and abdominoplasty can be performed at the same time without increasing surgical risk. A breast reduction would add two or three hours more and probably would not be a good idea.

While combining procedures is common and considered safe, there is a limit. You are considering combining medically necessary with elective procedures which will require coordinating two different surgeons. It is recommended that surgical time be limited to six hours or less for your safety. I encourage you to speak to each of your surgeons to get their feedback based on your physical exam and medical history.

Generally speaking, combination surgical procedures are done routinely. However, you are wise in being concerned about the safety of combination surgery; risks/possible complications do increase with increased length of surgery… In my practice, I would recommend that you not undergo all these procedures at the same time.
It is best to evaluate each patient's suitability for combination surgery on an individualized basis. During this consultation process, after a complete history and physical, the SAFETY of combining these surgical procedures becomes of paramount importance. Plastic surgeon, anesthesia provider, duration of surgery, surgery facility all important considerations. Your best bet: choose your plastic surgeon very carefully; everything else including good judgment/advice/planning, anesthesia provider and safe surgery facility will follow. Best wishes.

Having multiple surgeries is not uncommon and certainly a TT and hysterectomy are done routinely.  Adding the breast reduction would not be too difficult.  I would recommend blood thinners after surgery though since you are at risk for DVT.

Can it all be done at the same time yes,  but is it prudent probably not. Your hysterectomy might be a medically necessary procedure but the other two procedures are completely elective.  There are many other factors to consider as your age, the size of the reduction needed, and other medical issues that you might have ie high blood pressure or diabetes.  You usually would like to limit elective procedure to 5-6 hours of surgery.  You can increase the risk of pulmonary embolism, infection, and deep venous thrombosis.  It would be wise to split the procedures and have two separate operations.  You should meet with your surgeons and decide what would be the best game plan for you individually.Thanks for your question.Good luck!!

performed together, most experienced plastic surgeons feel that this is a bad
combination of surgical procedures to undergo at the same time. There is an
increased risk of bleeding, infection, deep venous thrombosis (DVT)
and subsequent pulmonary embolism with this specific combination and the length of potential surgery.

Thank you for your question.  While it is possible to have these three procedures performed at the same time, your plastic surgeon should first estimate the amount of time required to complete the operations.  If the hysterectomy is projected to take longer than 1 - 1.5 hours, it would likely be best to have the reduction performed separately. It is not unusual to have a full mommy makeover procedure that takes 5-6 hours on an outpatient basis.  Even if your surgery takes a total of 7 hours, you will be monitored at least overnight in the hospital.  That being said, you must understand that the risk of certain complications, such as problems with wound healing, increases as the length of surgery increases.  These are all issues that need to be discussed with your gynecologist and plastic surgeon so that you are fully aware of the risks and benefits of combining these procedures.  Best wishes!
