After 100 pound weight loss I have developed turkey neck and have been considering a neck lift. I shave my head due to my receding hairline. What are good options for me? I cannot grow a beard for coverage so I am concerned about a scar from Z-plasty. I am also curious about what a facelift could do for me. I am 52 years old and my weight has been stable since the weight loss a year and a half ago.
Answer: Is a neck and facelift right for you? Thank you for your question. Based on your photos, it appears you would be a good candidate for a neck lift and lower facelift. When I perform this procedure, I take care to place incisions where scarring will be minimal. Typically, incisions are placed under the chin and around the ears, in the natural creases of the skin whenever possible. I encourage you to schedule a consultation with an experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon who can assess you in person and determine the best treatment plan for you. Discuss your concerns about scarring with your doctor. There are steps you can take before and after your surgery to also help minimize scarring. With proper preparation and an experienced facial plastic surgeon, you should see a very good result.

Answer: Facelift This is a difficult scenario. The incisions from a facelift will certainly be somewhat visible in a person that is bald. If a direct neck lift is meticulously closed, the incisions can be somewhat difficult to see.

Answer: Neck lift with receding hairline Hi David, In our practice we always consider the hairline as a determining factor for a face and or neck lift. The incisions usually go around the ear behind the neck area and also into the hairline. Although the scars may heal nicely, there still may be some evidence of a scar. If you decide to move forward with any kind of facial surgery you would have to carefully consider any incisions and if the benefit would outweigh the scarring. You would benefit from a facelift and neck lift, a fat transfer to restore volume would also help along the mid face area. Warm regards, George Orloff M.D FACS

Answer: Neck lift with a mini facelift is a great way to go for you This is really a wonderful question and one that I get asked all the time. For most patients, a Z-neck lift is quick and can typically be done in the office under local anesthesia. There is nothing better than taking out the skin exactly where it bothers you and this is a great option. A mini facelift can be done at the same time and will help tighten that lower face region. If you are concerned about scarring it is important to make sure that you have a good balanced diet. There are supplements that can help the healing process as well as scar reduction products and massaging the incisions once they have healed and your doctor gives you the ok to do so. I would recommend that you see a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area that is a member of both ASPS & ASAPS and performs a lot of facelifts but also offers all the nonsurgical options such as injectables and laser treatments. Go over your concerns with them and make sure above all, you walk out of there with several options and never be pushed out with just one suggestion. Ultimately there are pros and cons to every procedure whether it's surgery or not surgery. It should always be your choice. I hope this helps and wish you all the best in your surgery and event.
