I am due to have a Septoplasty - to fix my irregular nasal septum due to the fact I cannot breath through my nose.

A rhinoplasty is performed for cosmetic purposes to  removed the hump,  straighten the nose and adjust the tip accordingly.  Patients must pay for the rhinoplasty themselves, since it is cosmetic. A septoplasty is a completely separate operation performed in the back of the nose  for medical necessity to improve airflow through the nose due to blockage of  the airway from  twisted cartilage and bone. A septoplasty is usually performed for medical necessity and is billed to patient's medical insurance. Both procedures can be performed at the same time under one anesthetic  with one recovery period.
