Does the epinephrine required during tumescent lipo noticeably increase one's heart rate?

Hi, I have sinus tach and am concerned that tumescent lipo may increase my heart rate during the procedure. Of course, I will clear this with my cardio, but I don't want to waste anyone's time with a consult if this is a threshold issue. Thanks

Good idea to get cardiac clearance prior to surgery.  Epinephrine is necessary during lipo and it generally doesn’t generally increase the heart rate but everyone is different.

Yes, Epinephrine in tumescent can potentially increase your heart rate. We always recommend a through medical screening and pre operative evaluation, and if someone has heart issues they should always get cardiac clearance before surgery. For the best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction revision, if you're a candidate. Thank you for your question. Yes, epinephrine used within the tumescent formula does sometimes cause a noticable increase in the heart rate during surgery. Anesthesiologists are most times able to take this into account during surgery and adjust IV medications accordingly. I would urge you to continue with your preoperative visit to make sure there is nothing that is being missed here (as far as your pre-existing condition or resultant physiologic status due to increase in heart rate through epinephrine effect). Yes, the epinephrine can initially increase your heart rate and your blood pressure. Your cardiologist will be the one to determine if you should have liposuction or not.
