Hi, I have sinus tach and am concerned that tumescent lipo may increase my heart rate during the procedure. Of course, I will clear this with my cardio, but I don't want to waste anyone's time with a consult if this is a threshold issue. Thanks

Answer: Epinephrine with liposuction Good idea to get cardiac clearance prior to surgery. Epinephrine is necessary during lipo and it generally doesn’t generally increase the heart rate but everyone is different.

Anesthesiologists are most times able to take this into account during surgery and adjust IV medications accordingly. I would urge you to continue with your preoperative visit to make sure there is nothing that is being missed here (as far as your pre-existing condition or resultant physiologic status due to increase in heart rate through epinephrine effect).
