Can you get oily skin after having a nose job?

Question

I had a rhinoplasty about 3 months ago, and I realised after the surgery my skin as become extremely oily especially my nose which is so weird to me because before my surgery my skin was extremely dry! I haven't changed anything else like skincare or diet so they cannot be the cause of the skin change. Could my operation have something to do with it? If yes is there a chance my skin will go back to normal because I don't know how to deal with this oily skin as Ive had dry skin my whole life!

I have been told by several patients that their nose seemed more oily following the rhinoplasty. I always assumed it was from blocking the pores with the week long cast. I usually instruct them to use products that are designed for oily skin until the skin settles back down. I am unaware of any effect on the oil glands by dissecting beneath them. I would think that if your condition doesn't eventually improve, you might want to speak to a dermatologist.

After a Rhynoplasty, you should expect some oily skin for a few months. Its normal.  OOn a couple of months your skin is going to be as before your surgery. Keep contact with your PS and ask about for some special creams.

Dear Aida.azizi, Yes it is common for some patients to have oily skin especially on the nose after rhinoplasty. You should see this resolve in the coming months. Continue your normal skin care regimen or speak with your surgeons office and if they have an aesthetician they may advise you on another regimen that will help reduce the oil or blockage caused from oily skin.
