The nurse injected Kybella into my platysma bands. I have been numb for a month now. Was she supposed to do this?

Kybella is a fabulous injection and it is only supposed to be injected into the submental area.  It is not supposed to be injected into the platysmal bands. It makes no sense why someone would inject this permanent dissolving product into the platsysmal bands where it does not belong. I would definitely consult a neurologist to assess the nerve involvement.  In the future I would consult an expert in Kybella to avoid such complications.  Best, Dr. Green

this product can strip the fatty coding also called the Meilin sheath from nerves. The  sheath or fatty ciating of nerves it's required in order for the nerve to properly function.  Nerve damage is usually described as neurapraxia and can have different levels of involvement.  When nerve damage is significant the nerves need to go through a process called regeneration  this is a slow process that and it's best it's about 1 mm per day.  Most likely you will regain normal sensation again. The area of tenderness will also most likely dissipate.  This was a Bizzarre off label use unless it was meant to reduce fat.  I continue to share my disapproval for this treatment option.  This product simply has too many problems with too many better alternatives.  I would encourage you to share with the real South community what your experience has been to warn others to stay away.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD 

Kybella is only approved for submental fat. However, it is used off-label in other locations. I have zero idea why someone would put it into platysmal bands though as these are not fat. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and
