The width of the nose should be the width of the distance between two medial canthus of the eyes. From your photograph, it appears to be that size and your nose is not too big. However, you may want to have it smaller. I would need lateral views of your nose to give you a more accurate answer. One thing to consider is a lip lift. A lip lift does 4 things: shortens the distance between your nose and upper lip, increases the mucosa of the upper lip, increases the incisor show and pulls up the corners.

The nose is big but not too big. Its mostly the tip and the wide nostrils, your nasal bones and bridge appear to be fine.
African American rhinoplasty typically involves 4 different components. Some patients need them all, some only one or two. Here are the 4 components.
1. Improvement of the bridge height with an implant.
2. Narrowing of the wide upper nose (bony part) with osteotomies.
3. Narrowing of the tip (Tip-plasty)
4. Narrowing of the nostrils (Alarplasty)

You need 3 and 4.

A closed rhinoplasty approach can accomplish narrowing the bridge line with osteotomies, refinement of the nasal tip from the frontal profile. All of the incisions are located on the inside of the nose. To narrow the nostrils, requires an Alarplasty with an incision at the base of the nostrils. It would be best to post a full set of facial photograph, from all angles, since the nose is three-dimensional, and rhinoplasty is performing in a three-dimensional fashion. Digital computer imaging would also be helpful to understand what can be accomplished with your nose upon your facial features.

Hello and thank you for your question. Ultimately only you can determine this. If you would like a rhinoplasty, then based on your photograph, you may benefit from a tip refining rhinoplasty. Your surgeon can accomplish this by trimming, suturing, and reshaping the cartilage in your lower nose. Cartilage grafts may also be used to help improve tip refinement. With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.
