Is Minoxidil liquid 5% effective for a women with Androgenetic Alopecia? (photo)

I've been using the Rogaine liquid 2% twice a day with good results over the past couple of years. When the 5% foam was launched, i was so happy since it would have meant a one day only minoxidil application, as explained by the manifacturer. Sadly i really dislike the foam and I need to keep on using the liquid. Would a one dayly application of Rogaine 5% liquid be as effective as twice daily application of the 2% liquid for a woman whom suffers from Androgenetic alopecia ? Thank you so much , C.

For some women, yes it is: 5% once daily is as effective as 2% twice daily. However, not for all women. Some women definitely find twice daily is better but of course the chances of side effects goes up too. These mainly include headaches, dizziness, hair growth on the face, temples and upper lip.

A study to answer just that question has not yet been done. However I have had good results with the 5% in minoxidil once per day in my female hair loss patients. Twice a day may still be better with the 5% foam since with this drug the effects are dose-dependent, and you should expect A shedding face if it is working. That being said I have always found the 5% to work better than the 2% at equivalent dosing times.

The recommended application is twice a day for 2% and 5%, but many use 5% only once a day.  It certainly will not hurt you to try once a day with the 5%.  There are other products you can try too such as topical spironolactone, but be careful with the manufacturer because some products have a terrible odor.  WNT Act is also useful in women.  You can use this once a day.  WNT Act was studied in women by Antonella Tosti and found to increase hair mass slightly.  Up regulating the WNT pathway promotes hair growth.  This is very useful in women and it is a liquid.  You can get WNT Act on Amazon.

Minoxidil is effective at the 5 percent dose, especially when used twice a day. With that dose, some women might develop hair elsewhere on the body
