Do I have to reschedule my surgery? What should I avoid, or what are good things to do to prepare my body for better recovery? Like pineapple juice for bruising, and no smoking for healing. Please email me. My email address is my user name
Answer: One ibuprofen prior to breast surgery probably doesn't make any difference. I don't think you have a problem. Nevertheless, report this to your surgeon. I see no reason to postpone the operation but it's not my decision.

Answer: Ibuprofen prior surgery Dear GalianaluvATgmail, you should be OK if you only took one dose on the 28th and there is no need to reschedule your procedure. Best if you ask your plastic surgeon for guidelines. Good luck.

Answer: Aspirin, Motrin, and surgery. Thank you for your question. And good luck with your upcoming surgery.I agree with the others here that you should certainly discuss your concern about motrin with your surgeon. All surgeons like their patients to stop these anti-inflammatory drugs at least 10 days prior to surgery because they can increase the risk of bleeding. Motrin has a shorter half life so it gets out of the system quicker but still check with your surgeon to be on the safe side.Ultimately, it may depend upon how much you took, when you took it, and what the surgery are going to have his. When in doubt, better safe than sorry.Good luck with your upcoming surgery and happy holidays.

Answer: I have surgery Dec 3, I took ibuprofen the 28th. Should I cancel surgery? No, you should be fine. The pre-operative as well as post-op instructions should have been given to you by your Board Certified PS's office during your pre-operative visit.. That include: what you should discontinue prior to surgery; what will help to minimize the swelling and bruising; compression garment info, etc..Please, contact you Board Certified PS office -- if you have not received those instructions.

Answer: No need to cancel There is no need to cancel your surgery. The blood thinning effects are gone 6 hours after taking ibuprofen. Aspirin is different, you need to stop that a week prior to build up a new population of platelets. Definitely stop the smoking as this has a documented adverse effect on healing amongst many bad effects of the body. Pineapple juice OK, but avoid a lot of dietary supplements as some have been shown to increase bleeding. Your plastic surgeon will help you fine-tune these details on your preoperative visit.
