How to remove a lip piercing scar tissue? (photos)

Question

I had my bottom lip pierced and I took it out after two months because it kind of got infected. The bump formed right after I took my piercing out. I didn't pay much attention until I notice when I smile it looks like I have a pimple on my bottom lip. So can sugery remove the scaring and make it less noticeable?

Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started.

You should see a cosmetic dermatologist who specializes in scars.  this typically would need a revision but injections with 5fu/steroids may be able to help without surgery. Scars can be improved but "cure" would have to be evaluated in person.  Best, Dr. Emer.

It is possible to revise or improve a lip piercing scar.  Even after the surgery, there will still be a scar, but hopefully it will be softer and less noticeable.   Seek out a board certified plastic surgeon in your area who performs scar revision surgery.  Best wishes, Dr. Lepore.
