Can I get my belly pierced after smart lipo? (photo)

Question

I got smart lipo on my upper/lower abdomen, back and waist a little over a month now. I had my belly pierced before but I took it out 2 years ago and it closed back up. My surgeon did the incision right where the hole was for my belly button. Can I get my belly pierced again ? If I can then how long should I wait until I get it? Will it hurt even more cause of scar tissue ? Thank you.

You can absolutely get a piercing post lipo.  However, I would wait a minimum of 4-6 months to allow the area to heal completely!

You should wait 3 months minimum for the surgical scar to heal completely before repiercing. When I perform tummy tucks, I'll do the repiercing myself using sterile technique and local anesthesia.

Getting your belly button pierced after having Smart Lipo shouldn't be a problem. You will, of course, need to wait until your scar is fully healed. This could take 4 to 6 months. In that time, follow your surgeon's instructions for recovery and try to keep the scar soft through massage. Make sure your incision is completely healed before you proceed with any piercing.

You should ultimately have no problem. I would wait 4-6 months, or until the scar is soft to allow for the best result. If the tissue feels firm, massage the area to help soften it. Best, Dr. M
