Intense radiating pain all the time since getting temporary crown put on, no root canal performed. Is this pain normal?

I have had a lot of dental work done over the years but this pain is by far the worst. It has been three days since getting a temporary crown put on. I have been taking Aleve with no relief. It hurts regardless of what I do all day long an intense throbbing pain. Does not feel too high. At the time Doctor said a root canal wasn't needed. I know it has only been a few days but I have never felt like this. Is it normal?

Severe Pain is never normal.  If your doctor did not tell you to expect it the best course is to call the dentist and get in ASAP.  It is always better to be over-cautious.  My patients have my cel phone number available in case of emergency.

It sounds like you are a seasoned veteran of the dental office. It isn't always a necessity to have a root canal done after a crown is prepared, but if you are in severe discomfort you should call the dentist. Let them do an examination to be sure that a root canal is unnecessary and determine the cause of your pain.
