Could my spinal cord have been injured from having my flanks done by smart lipo procedure?

I am having a lot of discomfort in my lower spine, i had my flanks done by liposuction 3 days ago. this is a different pain than what was expeirenced when i had my abdomen done. Could my spinal cord have been injured?

Your spinal cord is encased in bone. Spinal cord injuries produce paralysis. The word you are looking for is "lower back". Discomfort in this area is common after liposuction in this area due to friction over the muscles as the procedure is being conducted. This will improve over time and muscle relaxants, heating pads, massage and muscle ache creams (BenGay, etc) may help.

There is no way the spinal cord could be injured from liposuction.  If not done properly, the muscles can be bruised or injured and this could be reflected in back pain or spasm.  I suggest speaking to your physician and having him take a look to ensure there is no hematoma, seroma, or infection in the area.  As well, he should be able to assess you for muscle spasm or nerve inflammation.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question of concern. I recommend following up with your surgeon to make sure you are healing properly. After Smartlipo you will experience minimal swelling and bruising that will eventually subside, your compression garment will help with any swelling as well.
