Question

Last night I went out with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. The meal was salty but I was enjoying myself. Today, I have visible swelling. How long does salt affect facial swelling? Will it forever be this way whenever I eat salty foods? My health is good and I have low blood pressure. Does the increase in swelling from this incident affect my outcome? I assume if I drink plenty of water, have some coffee, etc. the swelling should go down by tomorrow or the next day. Thank you.

It will take up to 6 months for swelling to resolve and for your final results. However, this will gradually improve and won't be as noticeable. To improve final results, we will often ultherapy and thermage about 4-6 weeks after neck lift to get more of an outcome. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Major swelling after a face lift can last for weeks.  Minor swelling can last months. Small transitions in facial swelling after diet modifications (salty foods), exercise, etc can be seen for months after a face lift procedure. It is important to clarify and understand what exactly was done during a facelift procedure as extensive liposuction and defatting of the neck can add to more swelling over time.
