Question

The surgeon who did this said my tip was refined using septal cartilage and an I shaped silicone implant was used on the dorsum. I do not want another implant put in my nose. If I simply remove the implant, will my nose be deformed afterwards? What is the worse that could happen? What usually happens when someone simply removes the implant? I just want to look natural again and my nose to go back to the height it was originally, not ultra fake like this.

Thanks for the question. Removal of the implant is quite straightforward and can likely be done through a closed (endonasal) approach. However, doing so may leave your bridge lower than you desire, especially if your tip was raised with cartilage grafts. A careful examination of your nose and the implant thickness would be required to determine if the height of your bridge would be appropriate for you. If you would like, additional cartilage grafting could be done from your septum or ear to restore the bridge height to a point in between your original nose and the current one. I'd recommend consultations with 2-3 revision rhinoplasty specialists to determine the best course of action.Best regards,Dr. Mehta

Removal of silicone nasal implant from nose  can be done without anything else. Your nose should go back to the way it looked before. You can then decide if you want the bridge elevated more naturally with a septal cartilage graft done by revision rhinoplasty specialist.

This is a bit complicated but the short answer is yes but there are many factors to consider. An in person exam with operative records and preoperative photographs are imperative to make it a useful consultation. The tip work has changed things so without the implant things will not be the same. Secondly the implant will have a capsule that will possibly cause deformity even with good skin elasticity. The majority of experienced rhinoplasty surgeons prefer cartilage to implants and the difference is vastly different than you have experienced. Take your time and get more than one opinion and take your records with you!

The implant can be removed but the results are not totally predictable. It is possible to have some irregularity of the skin or contour or resulting asymmetry. The odds are that you will not have these problems but this could be corrected with cartilage grafts. Do you really want to go back to your original appearance? Remember, you had surgery to change that look.
