I've read that you are 100% aware of what is happening and, even though you are numb, you can feel/hear/smell the burning and "bone scraping." Is the bone actually being filed down or is a pocket just being created? Also, how long should it normally take for the numbness from the injections to go away? I've had cavities filled and (to me) it just feels uncomfortable. Would getting an implant under local be comparable? How scared or creeped out might I feel?
Answer: Chin Implant Under Local Anesthesia Dear Californiachin,Chin augmentation can be done under local anesthesia. An IV sedation or oral sedation is given to the patient in order to numb the face and provide optimum comfort. The best way to assure your concerns is to discuss your specific condition with your doctor and gather more information about the procedure. I suggest, if your doubts do not subside, to under the procedure under general anesthesia.Best Wishes, Dr. Ali Sajjadian

Answer: Getting a Chin Implant Under Local Anesthesia, How Does It Feel? With the local anesthetic you will not feel anything, but psychologically it might be better to have IV sedation or general anesthesia. This would make you unaware and entirely comfortable. If a patient is concerned that they will have a negative experience psychologically even though they will not feel pain, then it is better to take advantage of IV sedation or general anesthesia.

Answer: Chin implant performed under local anesthesia In our practice, we perform chin implants routinely under local anesthesia. The hardest part is just getting the chin numb with the local anesthetic. After that, most patients are very comfortable while the implant is being inserted n the pocket over the bone. The numbness usually takes approximately 2 hours to go away. Digital computer imaging may be helpful to understand what your New chin might look like. Answer: Chin implant under local anesthesia Although a chin implant could be placed with just local anesthesia, I would say more commonly, it would be done with IV sedation with local anesthesia. It could also be done under general anesthesia. When being performed with IV sedation and local anesthesia, there are some medications given through the IV which would make the patient sleepy and decrease any pain. An injection of local anesthesia would then be placed to numb the area. I normally use this type of anesthesia when performing chin augmentation and find that most patients are comfortable during the procedure. The bone is not usually filed down but it is scraped to create the pocket.
