Lump on face after lower face lift surgery. Will it go away in time? (Photo)

Question

I'm 13 weeks post lower facelift surgery and although it has gone down I'm still left with a pea sized lump on my cheek. I've been massaging it as advised by my PS but it's not going down. Should I ring him or will it go away in time? Thank you

Hello! It looks like the area is red. Was there fat transfer done? You may need an antibiotic. If this is improving from where it was, it's probably fine. If you have any concerns you should see your plastic surgeon in person. Best of luck!

It is in your best interest to talk to your surgeon about this problem. It can be anything from fat oil cyst, scar, fat necrosis to sebaceous cyst. In person evaluation and follow up with your PS is recommended. Good luck.

Thank you for the photos, you have swelling, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. I recommend following up with your Doctor for a formal evaluation and after care recommendations. It can take up to 6 months to have your final results with a face lift. To improve your final results, I recommend a combination approach with thermage/venus legacy and Kybella/Ultherapy. It is always hard to tell exactly what is going on without being able to see or feel it for yourself, but a pea sized lump in that area may be one of the stitches that was used to secure the lift. Some surgeons use permanent stitches and some use slowly dissoluble ones. If it is the later it will go away over time, but may take many months. There are other things that can cause a lump as well, but a stitch is one of the most common. I would suggest you follow-up with your surgeon as scheduled, so they can keep an eye on the healing process. I hope this helped, good luck!!

Localized areas of residual inflammation following facelift may be responsible for lumpiness which usually resolves with time. However, one must consider the possibility of a fluid or old blood collection, which can usually be determined by examination.
