I haven’t been having an appetite so I’ve mostly been having vegetable protein drinks and and I’m afraid consuming a pinch of because my face already blew up once. This has resulted in 10 lbs of weight loss, however I’ve not been very active so I’m sure some of that is muscle. Can this ruin my face and neck lift results? Is it common to lose weight post op?

Answer: Losing Weight After a Facelift It is not unusual to lose weight after facelift surgery, however if it lasts more than just a few days you should speak to your surgeon about it. Try to eat good protein meals, fresh fruits and vegetables. Good luck.

Answer: Weight Loss and Lower Facelift It is normal to have a decreased appetite for about 2-3 days after a lower facelift and necklift. In our practice, patients have a compression headwrap for 48 hours which does make it difficult to chew hard foods (soft foods are recommended and tolerated well). In addition, patients are typically taking low-dose prescription pain pills for these 2 days. So I do feel it's normal to perhaps lose 3-5 pounds in that first post-operative week. In addition, it's possible to lose a few pounds of muscle since most patients are kept out of the gym for 2 weeks as well. Lastly, if one does not drink enough fluids after a procedure, then they can become dehydrated (with weight loss as well). A 10 pound weight loss is a bit out of the ordinary, but something that should correct as soon as you get back to your regular diet and resistance exercises. Do touch base with your PS to see when they will allow you to return to normal activity and diet. Hope this helps. - Doc L.
