Nights RN. CT done a few mos ago-normal, no MRI. I have HA 2-3x a wk no known origin. I let it run its course & keep up with fluids. 800mg of Ibuprofen PRN. I was told to stop any aspirin or NSAIDs 2wks prior to my surgery, can I take a acetaminophen?
Answer: Migraine and TT surgery Dear T , Migraine headaches are very common. Make sure that you avoid MSG (mono sodium glutamat) which is a known trigger for migraine and is prevalent in Asian food, pre packaged food etc. Imitrex and other like drugs are very efficient in aborting the attacks. Since you had neurological exam that was clear and CT was negative, I do not see any contra indication for surgery. The risk with Imitrex is increase blood pressure after taking it, however few of patients who took it, did not have any problem. Without it , their life would have been miserable... Best of luck, Dr Widder

Answer: I was told to stop any aspirin or NSAIDs prior surgery, can I take a acetaminophen? = ask your surgeon #ha #tt #painkiller # Patients scheduled to go for surgery and would like to take an over the counter medication for management of headache (e.g.. acetaminophen, etc) should ask their plastic surgeon if OK to do so.

Answer: Tylenol should be fine HiThanks for the question, and so sorry about your suffering. Migraines can be so debilitating. For me, I can't see any reason you can't take the acetaminophen, tylenol. The Ibuprofen, NSAIDs I would have to agree with, but that is a surgeon preference. Depending on the surgery, some surgeons may be ok with the ibuprofen. Good Luck"The above answer has been given without seeing this patient and cannot be substituted for actual in-person examination and medical advice; it is only opinion. Seek in-person treatment with a trained medical professional for appropriate care."

Answer: Contraindications There are no contraindications to having a surgery and suffering from headaches. The most important component is that you share with your plastic surgeon and your anesthesiologist the medications that you are taking. You are correct about the Aspirin and NSAIDs. Acetaminophen should be alright but make sure your plastic surgeon is fine with this medication. Great question.
