30% TCA Peel Gone Horribly Wrong. 2 months later little to no improvement.

Question

I've done multiple 30% TCA peels in the past with no complications until now. 8 weeks ago I unevenly applied a 30% TCA peel on various areas in an attempt to burn off freckles. I left it on for 5 minutes, did not neutralize, and picked a lot during the peeling process, not realizing the gravity of what I just did. 2 months later I am now panicing because it is likely I have caused major permanent scarring. I've been using Mederma for the past 2 weeks but there is still no improvement. Pls help.

I would recommend seeing a board certified dermatologist to help you manage a common complication post TCA peel. I agree with Dr. Emer, and would discourage you from doing these at home. In the mean time, please apply liberal amounts of zinc or titanium oxide to the affected areas until you can see a dermatologist.

For now use a high factor SPF daily, you should see a specialist to reduce your chances of scaring. Vascular lasers can be used to treat the redness. Hopefully this will not scar, a burn like this will take up to 9-12 months or even longer to resolve. Like everyone on this Forum, high strength TCA peels should not be done at home.
