I know its not common to use hairs from pubic area. but for a patchy beard with same characteristics, can a surgeon take from this area without difficulties ? I heard follicule in pubic area are difficult to extract because they are deep in the skin, what is your opinion ? i heard also successfull transplantation with body hair is lower than by using hair from head. As body hair are thicker why they are not stronger ?

Answer: Hair transplant for beard Thank you for the question. Yes, you can definitely use that hair for a transplantation. The extraction of the hair follicle is not really a concern.

Answer: Donor hair areas for beard transplant Yes, for a beard transplant the donor hair can be excised from the head, the body/pubic and even other areas of your beard. However the head is generally the ideal area to transplant from. This is because the texture of the hair from the head is closer to the texture of the native areas that are transplanted in to. Additionally the harvesting process often leaves a small demarcation or scar on the skin, which is not desireable in many bodily areas that are not covered by hair. Yes, some areas can be more difficult to extract or require more skill than others as follicles can be more deeply embedded and stronger. The success rate in terms of graft survival is not lower with body hair transplants (particularly pubic hair), it is the overall unnatural appearance that can reduce the satisfaction rate of the procedure. In cases where hair cannot be transplanted from the head, sometimes nonsurgical treatments such as scalp micropigmentation to the beard, topical medicines and/or selective body hair transplantation can be performed for a favorable outcome. A formal evaluation with a board certified hair restoration surgeon would be typically advised and especially so for anyone seeking out of the ordinary methodology. Best regards, Dr. Ziering

Answer: Harvest sites Generally speaking, hair on the torso including the pubic area is just as easily extracted as the head. However, torso and pubic hair do not have as high as a successful graft rate as the back of the head. It will still work however and you may just need to use more hair to achieve the density you are looking for. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MD Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon IG: @drjohnsonlee
