I use retane capsules ( isotretione 10mg 30 capsules) and androcur ( 10mg 30 pills ) and i have made 2 laser hair removal sessions before I started the course, can I continue the third laser session? Or it will cause permanent scars?
Answer: You'll get different answers from different docs Convential wisdom would suggest avoiding any procedures while on isotretinoin due to impairment of wound healing and increased sensitivity to sun (light) exposure. However the limited data looking at this subject does not seem to indicate patients are actually at increased risk for adverse events. However, given that these are elective "cosmetic" procedures I would be surprised if most docs would be willing to perform laser procedures on you while on isoretinoin.

Answer: Laser hair removal post Isotretinoin treatment Thank you for your question! Each medical facility will have a slightly different protocol on laser procedures post isotretinoin treatment. During, and up to a year after taking isotretinoin your skin is highly sensitive to light (sun, lasers, etc.). The risk for skin damage (burning, scarring, etc.) is greatly reduced if you wait at least 6 months to receive a laser treatment. I recommend consulting with an experienced laser specialist to create a unique plan in order to receive a safe and effective aesthetic treatment. Best of luck, Dr. Kian

Answer: There have been several small studies that were done retrospectively Thank you for your question! Given that Isoretinoins can increase the risk of scar formation, the conventional wisdom is to avoid any laser treatments, waxing, dermabrasion for 6 months after stopping the medication. There have been several small studies that were done retrospectively(looking backwards at patient outcomes) that did not show any increased scar formation.....so the verdict in this case: if it were me(and you should always ask your provider this) "Would you have LHR while taking isoretinoin?" I would not. Best of luck!
