Axillary breast tissue reduction: should my scars be flat? (Photos)

Axillary breast tissue removal is difficult with liposuction alone.  Swelling can persist for 6 months and sometimes up to 1 year following liposuction.  The scars are initially red or hyperpigmented but the scars do tend to improve over about a 12 to 18 month period.  Given time, you will probably be pleased with the result.Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a liposuction surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides  you will be able to see the final result of your surgery.

Your surgery wasn't even a week ago, it will take several weeks for the swelling to go down. Scars can take a year or more before they fade and settle down. Try to be patient and follow your surgeon's post operative instructions. Good luck.

 I appreciate your concern Nola, however your surgery was less than one week ago! It can take as long as 4 to 6 months for all swelling to resolve and skin to re-contour. Also scar maturation can take as long as one year before it settles down and fades completely. Try to stay patient and positive and follow up with your plastic surgeon. Good luck.

Hello and thank you for the question and sharing your photos. It's too early in the recovery process. It can take several weeks to months for liposuction results to show. Additionally, surgical scars will mature and fade over many months. I would be more patient. Stay in close contact with your surgeon. I would delay any revision surgery until after several months from the time of the original surgery. Best,

You are still early on the healing process, it can take up to six months to see your final results, so please be patient. Your scars should improve with time.
