Is there any actual proof that compression garments affect the outcome?

 Good question Victoria! While I am not aware of specific scientific studies proving the efficacy of compression garment after liposuction, I can tell you from personal experience that patients who wear the garments for at least 2-4 weeks after surgery seem to recover quicker with better results.  In the early stages after surgery, the garment most certainly speeds swelling reduction and improves skin contouring.  However, a poorly fitting garment can harm the result and it is important that the garment fits snugly, but not too tight. Discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon. Good luck.

I understand your concern and frustration with the compression garments. If you are having difficulty wearing them, I would talk to your doctor. Compression garments are very helpful for managing swelling and have been found to decrease the incidence of hematomas, which can affect outcomes. However, if they are more trouble than they are worth at this point, your doctor may have other options for you. I wish you a safe and speedy recovery!

Thanks for your question. I  have my liposuction patients wear a compression garment (faja) covering all treated 24/7 except to shower for 4 weeks post op.  This helps ontrol swelling as the compression on your tissues helps your body to reabsorb the edema fluid that accumulates in the tissues after any procedure. This can take quite some time to happen without help from the compression garments.  It also helps improve  contour.  Compression helps to keep the tissues adherent to the underlying structures while healing, this can help prevent the wrinkled skin appearance that can happen when the tissues heal in ways we don't want them to.

I think they help alot to control pain and swelling.It also allows your loose skiun to contract circumferentialy and this is important.

Compression garment protocols and adjunctive therapy like faja, binders, foam pads etc. vary from surgeon to surgeon. Post-operative compression garment therapy is very important in order to achieve the best results. However, if a garment does not fit correctly, unevenly distributes pressure, or  is too tight... it may affect and hinder ones overall result. It is always best to review and make sure your garment is adequate by reaching out to your surgeon in order to maximize your result.
