I am finally looking to get a breast reduction! It's been so long and every day is uncomfortable. I am a 30DDD (I think) and was curious why some women get a more boxy shape after their reduction. If it depends on your current size (I'm 5'3 & 115 lbs), surgeons technique, etc. Or post-surgery does wearing a good bra help for shape? I would appreciate any information or advice regarding getting the best results!! Thank you :D

Answer: Long term shape can depend on technique Hi cheeetah, Surgeons choose the correct breast reduction technique for you based on your own characteristics, including your long-term goals but also your initial size, shape, and measurements. Importantly, the technique chosen can impact your long-term shape and its stability. An inferior pedicle technique, which keeps the nipple alive based on the blood supply below the breast, is commonly referred to as producing a longer term more boxy shape. Other techniques, including one called a superior medial technique, generally produce a less boxy shape but may not be possible in patients with very large breasts to start with. I think that this is an excellent question to discuss with your surgeon in advance, in real time during the exam. It is not enough to have a conversation that you want a breast reduction, but you would like to know the specific technique that they would envision using, and how this would impact your long-term shape and results. Hope this helps. Best,Christopher Pannucci MDBoard Certified Plastic SurgeonPlastic Surgery NorthwestSpokane, Washington

Answer: Breast reduction Thank you for your question! Breast reduction results are based on surgeon technique. A good compression bra after surgery will help with swelling and post operative discomfort. I recommend that you visit a board certified plastic surgeon and discuss these concerns and look at his/her before and after photos to see if you are happy with his/her work! Best of luck!

Answer: Breast reduction Final shape of the breasts will depend, between few other things, of how much tissue is removed; reduction to a C cup size is very likely to create better and more durable result, while reductions where too much tissue is left, will result in square, boxy breasts. It also depends of the technique used and, most of all, your surgeon. Good luck.
