Can a chin implant help smoothing down a hyperactive mentalis muscle? My chin is small and my mentalis muscle is very big and round. I am a female in early 20'. Sorry for bad English, its not my first language

It appears that mentalis muscle hypertrophy in your case may be related to a small chin? Mentalis muscle strain to close lips will result  in muscle hypertrophy and chin deformity. It is very likely that chin augmentation and re-positioning of muscle origin with improve condition. However, without detailed clinical examination it would be very difficult to give you more accurate opinion.You should seek a consult with a board certified plastic surgeon for detailed clinical evaluation and discuss your goals and options. Hello and thank you for your question. A chin implant can help harmonize the lower face and eliminate the dimpling associated with mentalis strain in patients with microgenia (small chin).  The mentalist muscle helps bring the lower lip up and close the mouth. When the chin is recessed this muscle has to strain to do so. A neuromodulator can help with true bulging but only and implant or filler can help in eliminating strain. Another benefit of a chin implant is that it helps eliminate the double chin by adding more length and definition to the cervicomental angle. Good luck to you!

Hi, I have performed many chin augmentations using chin implants over the past 30 years.  A weak chin creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy and the lower face look short that de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a double chin.  Chin augmentation using a chin implant will add projection to the chin creating harmony and balance to the lower face.  I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick and highly effective.  Botox injections to the mentalist muscle would be the best way to treat an over active muscle and can be combined when placing the chin implant.  Hope this helps.
