Subcision- How to tell if it's "working"?

Question

Greetings doctor, how can you tell if subcision is working on the scars? I've read that when the needle breaks the fibrous strands it would make "bubble popping" sounds. However, when I had mine done, there weren't any. I asked my dermatologist and he said he felt tension which I assume he's breaking up the disrupted collagen fibers. Please advice. Thank you.

The results of subcision are highly dependent on who is performing the procedure.  It's not difficult for me to tell when the scar has been released and lifted during the procedure.  There is a loss of resistance as the needle is passed repeatedly under the skin and the skin is visibly lifted.  Subcision is very useful for rolling, distensible scars, especially on the cheeks.

Subscion is a very useful procedure for anchored and tethered scars. This procedure breaks the bonds, during the procedure the Specialist can feel resistance, and then give as the bonds break. The easiest method to tell if any procedure is working is to take a before and after shot. I always encourage my patients to take selfies as this gives an unbiased opinion into the efficacy of treatments. NOTE- for subscion, expect a 20-30% improvement, this is a realistic expectation.
