Subcision can be a highly effective treatment for boxcar and rolling scars caused by acne.  Atrophic scars can be a bit tricky; while they generally improve from a standpoint of contour, if the skin quality is too poor either ablative fractional resurfacing or surgical excision will be required to achieve best outcomes.  Subcision  is performed in the office under local anesthesia.  Bruising and swelling are common postoperatively with the majority resolving within 1-2 weeks.

best use them and to choose the right one for the right situation. We learn
subcision early in our training and using it in the right setting requires a
thorough examination of your skin and your scars. Many of us now that use
subcision will use it in combination with other procedures, so one needs to see
the scars and see what would work best. We have some very nice newer therapies
that work very well on scars – we call these RF fractional devices. The
sublative RF devices – the Syneron eMatrix and the Venus Viva – work well on
atrophic acne scars; and the microneedling RF devices, including the EndyMed
Intensif, is one of the newer devices having great success in treating atrophic
acne scars.
