Should I get a lip reduction first or braces to fix up my teeth?

I perform a lip reduction about every other day, probably more often than anyone in the world.  If you are just straightening your teeth with braces, then you could easily do the lip reduction first.  Depending on how much is reduced, you would have more teeth visible.  There is a risk of showing even gum or a gummy smile if a lot is reduced and that should be part of the discussion.  It depends on how much reduction and how much gum you show now.  Doing it afterwards would also be fine but just be careful that the braces do not irritate the sutures.  That usually is not a big deal.  If you do a lip reduction surgery first, in my experience I prefer at minimum of 6 weeks before braces.  However, you should know that if we are talking about your upper lip that you could feel tight for 4 to 8 weeks afterward and just need to put that in your consideration as well.  I hope that helps.
